BATWOVE

BATWOVE is a mnemonic used within the Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) to help analyze and understand a system, standing for Beneficiaries, Actors, Transformation, Worldview, Owners, Victims, and Environmental constraints. It is a method to help explore the impacts of a planned intervention in a complex system space and gain clarity on the feedbacks and tradeoffs that will need to be made.

BATWOVE is particularly effective when used after the development of the rich picture and the transformation statements, discussed earlier in the learning guide. It highlights the importance of considering different perspectives and the necessity of exploring intended and unintended consequences of interventions.
