Power/Interest Matrix

The power/interest matrix is a simple yet effective tool for categorizing stakeholders based on two key dimensions: their power to influence the food system and their level of interest in it. This matrix typically divides stakeholders into four quadrants: high power/high interest, high power/low interest, low power/high interest, and low power/low interest.

By mapping stakeholders onto this matrix, we gain a clear visual representation of their relative importance and the strategies needed to engage with them. In the context of food systems, this might include mapping farmers' cooperatives, large agribusinesses, consumer groups, government agencies, and NGOs, each occupying a different position based on their influence and stake in the system.

For a project or situation you are currently involved in, populate this matrix with the stakeholders involved. Are there are any more stakeholders that come to mind? Be as specific as possible, e.g., Ministry of Agriculture as compared to 'Government' - consider who you will aim to influence.
